A Glance “Behind the Builder”…
Hello and welcome to our blog Behind the Builder! For our first post we wanted to let you know a little about us and the content we plan on providing. We just rolled out a new website and thought it the perfect time to launch this behind-the-scenes blog that has been brewing for some time now. Considering all recent changes in the past few years, we’ve seen our homes evolve to become not just our residence, but our sanctuary, office, and retreat. We really wanted to educate and inspire all things home and outdoor living related!
Who We Are…
I’m Crystal, born & raised in North Texas and a graduate of West Texas A&M. I have always been active in sports, barrel racing and rodeo. I wear a lot of hats; business administrator, social media director (which I fail at epically), outdoor designer and homeschool mom to name a few. I work alongside my husband in our construction businesses, and I have found a particular niche and passion for outdoor design. I am proud to say we were able to add international award-winning designers for residential pools to our resume last year! My proudest title though, is that of mom to two sweet little cowboys. Jake and I enjoy all time spent with our boys, hunting, fishing rodeo and sports. I am an admirer of all things vintage and rustic, and love being able to incorporate items with personal significance or nostalgia into a design. My husband, Jake, was born in Northwest Colorado watching his father and grandfather as they worked in construction fields. Jake’s German grandparents instilled in him a rigorous work-ethic and he was taught to value hard work and reputation. He came to Texas to attend WTAMU on a Rodeo Scholarship & continued to rodeo with the PRCA as a steer wrestler for 10 years. During off seasons he worked for a local builder in Jacksboro, TX; to whom he credits much of his knowledge & career. In 2008, we took the official plunge & created FC Builders and a few years later added Sunfish Pools. Jake is now a member of Certified Master Builders & has a wide array of projects in his portfolio; from historical renovations, modern custom homes, full-scale baseball fields to equine water walkers and more; it's obvious he loves a challenge & can take on any project.
What To Expect…
Behind The Builder will be a joint venture between our two companies FC Builders and Sunfish Pools. We will cover varying topics monthly, ranging from how to choose a builder, current design trends for homes and pools, and reviews of great home products. While social media has provided a wealth of information at our fingertips, a vast majority of the information is unreliable or no longer applicable following the extreme changes we’ve seen post-covid. In a nutshell, there is some genuinely bad information out there and Texas has a knack for producing unqualified, self-proclaimed contractors with a plethora of horror stories. We hope to collaborate at times with other trusted professionals in the industry and be your reliable source of information, advice, and design inspiration.
