First Choice Custom Builders has proudly served North Central Texas since 2008. FC Builders is family-owned and operated by Jake and Crystal Hettinger of Jacksboro, TX. Their passion is custom homes, but they also have experience in commercial construction, remodels, additions, and equestrian facilities. First Choice has been awarded “Best of Houzz for Service” numerous years. Jake is a Certified Master Builder Corporation member, a standard only the finest builders attain and maintain through a rigorous evaluation each year. First Choice has built a reputation for meticulous details, clean job sites, and a diverse portfolio.

  • Meet your Builder

    Jake was born in Northwest Colorado, watching his father and grandfather working in construction fields. Jake's German grandparents instilled in him a rigorous work ethic, and he was taught to value hard work and reputation. He came to Texas to attend West Texas A&M University on a Rodeo Scholarship & continued to rodeo with the PRCA as a steer wrestler for ten years. During off-seasons, he worked for a local builder in Jacksboro, to whom he credits much of his knowledge & career. In 2008, he & wife Crystal took the official plunge & created FC Builders. He is a member of Certified Master Builders & has a wide array of projects in his portfolio, from historic renovations, modern custom homes, full-scale baseball fields to equine water walkers and more; it's obvious he loves a challenge & can take on any project. Jake enjoys spending time outdoors with his two boys hunting, fishing, rodeo & sports.

  • Co-Founder & Design

    Crystal was born & raised in North Texas. A cum laude graduate of WTAMU, she has always been active in sports, barrel racing, and rodeo. Being ranch-raised, she was taught the importance of grit, tenacity, and hard work. Crystal works along- side her husband handling the administration side of the business. She has found a niche & passion for outdoor design and is now an award-winning international designer for outdoor entertainment & pool design. Her proudest title, though, is that of mom to two sweet little cowboys. She enjoys spending time with her boys, watching them rope, ride, and play sports. Crystal is an admirer of all things vintage or rustic; she loves stories, history, and art. She loves incorporating items with personal significance or nostalgia into a design and believes design should not follow trends but should have authentic meaning and complement the characteristics of a family and the surrounding landscape.

  • Superintendent

    Derek is a native North Texan, a graduate of Rider High, and a journeyman electrician for 22 years. He, his wife Monica, and their three kids reside in Holliday, TX. Derek takes pride in also being with the Wichita Fire Department for over 20 years. Along with handling day-to-day building needs, he has been a great asset to the company in pool design and drawing. Derek is highly dependable and punctual with a “get it done” personality. We are grateful he’s on our team! He enjoys hunting, fishing, and football, along with coaching and watching his talented kids play sports!

  • Ashley was raised and currently resides in Jacksboro. She and her husband, Alan, have been married for 15 years, 8 of which were spent in the military. They have lived in various places, including four years in Germany. Ashley has been a huge asset to the team. Her ever-positive attitude and upbeat personality is a great balance for the demands of the construction office. Ashley is well-organized and has great follow-through. Not only is she an office manager and bookkeeper, but she has the willingness to fill in for other field positions when needed. She spends her extra time working in the family’s garden and farm and, most importantly, running their two sweet kids to their sporting events.
